Owner Questions

Answers to the questions we hear most

General information to help you get oriented. Every situation is different, so call us if yours doesn't fit.

What is a division order?

A division order is a statement from the operator, or the company buying production, that lists your decimal interest in a well and asks you to confirm it so they can pay you. In Texas, signing one generally doesn't change the terms of your lease. Still, read it carefully and make sure the decimal and property description match what you own.

Is my decimal interest correct?

Your decimal usually comes from your ownership share, your lease royalty rate and your tract's share of the unit. Mistakes happen in each of those pieces. We rebuild the math from your deeds, lease and unit documents and compare it to what the operator shows.

Why are my royalties in suspense?

Common reasons are an unsigned division order, a missing tax ID (W-9), an outdated address, an unprobated estate or a title question. Funds stay held until the issue is resolved, so knowing the exact reason is the first step.

Someone in my family passed away. What happens to their minerals?

The operator needs documents showing who now owns the interest, such as a probated will, an affidavit of heirship or other curative. Until then, payments are often suspended. We help gather the right documents and get the interest transferred.
